LEVITON POWER OVER ETHERNET (PoE) MIDSPAN POWERS IP PHONES, WIRELESS LAN ACCESS POINTS, IP NETWORK CAMERAS AND MORE! Add efficiency and flexibility to your Ethernet-based communications with Leviton's PoE Midspan. The IEEE 802.3af compliant PoE Midspan automatically detects PoE-ready devices and supplies 48 volts of DC power over existing Ethernet cabling, eliminating the need for an external AC power source and associated wiring. Power over Ethernet is a safe and reliable means for powering Voice over IP phones, wireless LAN access points, IP network video cameras and other PoE-enabled devices in enterprise installations. Deploying the PoE Midspan in conjunction with a central uninterruptible power supply (UPS) provides a cost-effective way to distribute back-up power to ensure operation of mission critical devices during electrical power failure. Leviton's PoE Midspans support 6 or 24 ports in a 10/100 Base-T Ethernet network and mount on standard 19 inch racks. POWER OVER ETHERNET 101 Power over Ethernet or PoE technology describes a system to transmit electrical power, along with data, to remote devices over standard twisted-pair cable in an Ethernet network. This technology is useful for powering IP telephones, wireless LAN access points, webcams, Ethernet hubs, embedded computers, and other appliances where it would be inconvenient or infeasible to supply power separately. The technology is somewhat comparable to POTS telephones, which also receive power and data (although analog) through the same cable. It works with an unmodified Ethernet cabling infrastructure. |
